The Cover Kid Event 2025

Sat, Aug 16th, 2025, 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM CDT
Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel, Baton Rouge, LA

What is The Cover Kid Event?
It’s the one time during the year where judges pick the children who will appear in the pages of Baton Rouge Parents Magazine. Again, only a select few will appear on the covers. Being chosen does not guarantee a cover.

How long have you been holding the event?
For over 26 years! The magazine has been a staple for parents for over 35 years.

Is there a fee?
Yes, there is a fee to participate. You will see it when you register!

What makes a Cover Kid?
Cover Kids are ages 2-17. All children are invited to participate, regardless of shape, size, ethnicity, or ability.

How is a Cover Kid selected?
There isn’t a secret to being chosen. The best advice we can give? Let your children be themselves. They’re all adorable and we know they have great personalities! Let them show that to the judges through the quick interview.

What should my child wear?
Whatever he or she wants! Batman costume? Yes. Elsa and Anna dress? Absolutely. If they are comfortable in it, let them wear it! We want them to feel their best, and if that’s their go-to outfit, we’re here for it. Basically, there’s no dress code.

When is the event?
Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Okay, sounds great. Now what really happens during the event?
You pick your time for your child’s “interview.” Your child shows up looking and feeling his or her best. Your child will meet with the judges and have a quick chat. (Sorry, mom. You have to sit this one out, but don’t worry, your kid has got this!) Your child will find out immediately after if he or she has a call back.

What happens if they get a call back?
You will take your call back paper and return at call back time to see the judges once more. There, the judges will do one final look before choosing the Cover Kids. We recommend coming EARLY to the call back time.

And if they don’t?
This unfortunately happens. We really mean it when we say that we want all of the children to make it. However, don’t let this get you down. There’s always next year. Maybe your child wasn’t feeling it during the interview. It doesn’t change the fact that he or she is awesome and still as adorable as can be.
