Summer may be coming to an end, but planning for next year’s summer camp is just beginning. You might be wondering why I’d encourage you to start now. Simply put, it’s a big decision—and you’ll want all the resources ready. With this camp checklist, you can get a head start and avoid scrambling to find the perfect camp when registration opens.
RESEARCH CAMP TYPES
Start your research early. Maybe you (or your kiddo) heard about a new camp over the summer and want to learn more, or perhaps the camp your child has their sights set on fills up quickly. Now’s the time to explore all the options and make a shortlist of potential camps. Having a list ready means you’ll have backup choices in case your child’s top pick doesn’t work out.
TALK TO FRIENDS
Getting advice from friends and family can be a huge help when choosing the perfect camp, so talk to them now while their child’s experience is still fresh in their minds. Who knows, maybe their kiddo hasn’t even unpacked their travel trunk yet! Having these conversations early will give you clearer insight and help narrow down you and your child’s list of camps.
START BUDGETING
Some camps can be more expensive than others—and it’s usually the one your kiddo really wants to attend. By starting to budget now, you’ll not only help make that dream a reality, but you’ll also feel more at ease knowing you’ve planned ahead or given yourself plenty of time to save.
PLAN FOR ACCOMMODATIONS
If your child needs any accommodations, planning early will give everyone peace of mind. Ask camp directors questions about how they can support your child, read the FAQs and policies, and ensure you have everything needed for a successful summer. Some camps are more accommodating than others, so it’s important to know what’s possible before registration begins.
