Early exposure to books is vital for children’s learning and development, and the Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Residency Program is making it easier than ever to help. Through their annual book drive, in partnership with the Reach Out and Read Program, the program aims to provide free, age-appropriate books to pediatric patients during their well-child visits.
Reach Out and Read is a national initiative that integrates early literacy into pediatric care, encouraging families to read aloud together. By providing books during visits, the program supports both developmental milestones and the joy of reading.
From January 10-31, you can donate new or gently-used books to benefit the Pediatric Academic Clinic on Goodwood. This resident-run clinic serves children from birth to 18 years old, providing books for patients—and sometimes their siblings—at every check-up.
Donations of books in all languages are welcome, as the clinic serves a large Spanish-speaking population alongside others in the community. Public donations can be dropped off at the Children’s Hospital Café (Swollfest Café), where a designated bin will be available.
