Flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, and the kids are bouncing up and down. It’s finally spring! What better way to celebrate this bright season than with Spring Healthy Families Day at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens? Gather your little chicks and ducklings together for a fun day of healthy activities and create some sunny family memories among the blooms and buzzes.
Spring Healthy Families Day, a StoryTime in the Garden event, is sponsored by The Junior League of Baton Rouge and made possible through a partnership with the LSU AgCenter. The day will be overflowing with storybook readings, family yoga, kid-friendly cooking demonstrations, and opportunities to tour the new children’s pollinator garden and take a walk on the nature trail. Through a creative mix of storytelling and imaginative hands-on activities, your little ones will be entertained while learning. Spring Healthy Families Day will also have a unique spring theme. Dr. Becky White, Emeritus and Adjunct Professor of Organization Development and Evaluation, Child Development at the LSU AgCenter, explains, “We’re featuring the theme ‘honey’ and have a great mix of stories and activities we know you will love. We even have the Capital Area Beekeepers Association joining to provide live demonstrations of honey-making and bee hives!” Surely, the bee magic will be a delight for the children.
We all want to model healthy lives, a love for reading, and an appreciation of nature for our children, and events like this are perfect ways to do so. Parents with children ages three to eight are invited to experience the springtime celebration on Saturday, April 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pop in with your kids any time during those hours for a beautiful day among the gardens. Registration is not required and the event is free of charge. All activities take place near the Pavilion at the LSU Botanic Gardens at Burden 4560 Essen Lane (I-10 at Essen Lane). lsu.edu/botanic-gardens/
