The Iris Domestic Violence Center extends its deepest gratitude to every sponsor, guest, and supporter who joined us for the 2025 “Unmasking Domestic Violence” Gala, held October 2 at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge.
It was a night unlike any other, a celebration of survival, courage, and community. From the first notes of Crescent City Soul to the final moments of joy, the evening was filled with compassion, purpose, and hope. Their performance was truly wonderful and set the perfect tone for an evening dedicated to resilience and unity.

Our Mistress of Ceremony, Kiran Chawla, opened the program with warmth and grace, welcoming a room full of people united in one mission: to create safety, dignity, and healing for survivors of domestic violence and their children. She reminded us that every sponsorship, every ticket, and every auction bid helps Iris continue to be a refuge for those rebuilding their lives.
We were honored to begin the evening with a beautiful blessing from Father Alex, setting a tone of reflection and gratitude that carried throughout the night. We were also deeply thankful for the presence of many community leaders and public officials who stand shoulder to shoulder with Iris in this vital work: Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services Secretary Rebecca Harris, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux, St. George Mayor Dustin Yates, St. George Police Chief Todd Morris, Baton Rouge Mayor-President’s Chief of Staff Lon Vicknair, and Senator Rick Edmonds. Their partnership reinforces that safety and justice are community responsibilities we all share.
We were profoundly honored to welcome Louisiana Attorney General Elizabeth Murrill, who delivered an inspiring message affirming the State’s steadfast commitment to protecting survivors and holding offenders accountable. Her words reminded everyone that progress happens when compassion and courage meet action.

A highlight of the evening came from Ellie Kousoulas, who shared her story of survival, healing, and empowerment. Her courage touched every heart in the room and embodied the very spirit of Iris, the belief that every survivor deserves safety, strength, and a future free from fear.
The night flowed with music, laughter, and generosity, from a spirited silent auction to the thoughtful gift of Gordon McKernan Injury Lawyers, who provided complimentary Uber rides home to ensure everyone’s safety. It was an evening where kindness echoed in every detail and purpose guided every moment.
Because of your extraordinary generosity, the gala was a tremendous success. Proceeds will directly fund lifesaving shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, children’s programs, and essential resources for those turning to Iris for safety and hope.
To our sponsors, donors, and guests, thank you. You have given more than support; you have given the gift of safety, healing, and second chances.
On behalf of our staff, board of directors, and the thousands of survivors and children we serve each year, thank you for standing with us. Together, we are helping Iris continue to grow as a national model of what a domestic violence shelter and service organization can be.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Patti Joy Freeman
