The Lynx Den STEAM Center at University View Academy inspires curiosity, creativity, and innovation. Built as a state-of-the-art STEAM facility, the Lynx Den provides access to all UVA students to explore, design, and build projects that extend learning beyond the classroom.
The 10,000-square-foot facility allows students to engage in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with their peers. It houses a performance stage, study hall space, a maker space, and a fully equipped esports arena.
Bi-weekly maker space events are hosted for UVA students that allow them to participate in hands-on projects like building rubber band cars, constructing catapults, and making slime. Lessons turn into projects right in front of their eyes, all while learning together about STEAM initiatives.
The building offers a robust welcome area that features space for study halls, performances, and test-prep events. Each school level has a designated day each week to visit the Lynx Den for study hall if they would like. This schedule provides an opportunity for students to work in a structured and supportive environment with teachers present to lend assistance.
Members of the UVA drama and glee clubs frequent the Lynx Den for events and utilize the performance stage that features seven cameras, professional lights, and professional audio capabilities to highlight our talented students.
The Lynx Den Esports Arena features 27 high-powered Digital Storm gaming computers, five Nintendo Switches, two Playstation 5s, and two Xbox Series Xs. UVA sponsors competitive teams and general esports clubs for elementary, middle, and high school students. The Lynx Den hosts an annual Esports Industry Day event and local and regional competitions throughout the school year that help club members enhance their skills. The industry day event provides a glimpse into what a future in esports and/or game design could look like.
