Earlier this month, families from across Baton Rouge gathered at FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake for Take Back the Night, a free community event dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and supporting survivors.
The evening blended education, reflection, and family-friendly connection, with speakers, live music from local church groups, food trucks, and vendors. Parents, children, and community members came together to stand with survivors and remember those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence.
“We hope that events like Take Back the Night can inspire healing within our community,” says Chuck Spicer, president of FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake. “By standing together to support victims, we can bring light to the darkness of domestic violence.”

The event was made possible through strong partnerships with IRIS Domestic Violence Center, Unbound Now, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Baton Rouge Police Department, and Family Resource Group Foundation. Together, these organizations work year-round to offer safety, counseling, legal help, and resources for families in crisis.

Patti Freeman, executive director of IRIS Domestic Violence Center, emphasized that the event honors both the strength of survivors and the children and adults affected by violence at home. She shared that the community’s support helps create a future where every person can live in safety, dignity, and hope.

FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake, rooted in its mission of service and values of reverence, love, joy, humility, and justice, is honored to support families through events like Take Back the Night and ongoing resources for those in need.
