Knock Knock Children’s Museum, a 501©(3) non-profit, is a vibrant hub of exploration, sparking a love for learning through PLAY! Our 26,000-square-foot facility is nestled in BREC’s scenic City-Brooks Park, steps from LSU.
We believe a connected, caring community is essential to the healthy development and well-being of all children and families in the Greater Baton Rouge area. We understand that every child has different needs and Knock Knock strives to be a place where every family can explore unique educational opportunities together.
Why Play at Knock Knock?
Knock Knock Children’s Museum offers 18 hands-on, interactive exhibits called Learning Zones, all specifically designed to engage children in playful learning. Each Learning Zone was intentionally designed to facilitate early childhood development. To adults, a child’s play may look chaotic and unfocused, but play is a vital part of how children learn, explore, and make sense of the world around them. Play stimulates brain growth, encourages creativity, improves social and emotional skills, and develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It lays the foundation for literacy, opens doors to possible career pathways and passions, and exposes them to the arts and early STEAM concepts.
Opportunities for All Families
Every child deserves the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow in an environment that nurtures their innate curiosity. Knock Knock offers a welcoming environment for children to develop critical thinking skills, cultivate their imaginations, and build confidence.
Through our Access for All initiative, Knock Knock Children’s Museum ensures that all children across Louisiana’s Capital Region – regardless of their backgrounds, abilities, or socioeconomic status – can benefit from the transformative power of play-based learning.
We offer inclusive, “after-hours” events called Play4All which are tailored for children with disabilities and special needs, along with their family, caregivers, and therapists. Play4All creates a sensory-friendly environment with low lighting, reduced noise, and adaptive equipment, ensuring all children can enjoy Knock Knock. Play4All events are hosted quarterly and are free to attend. Registration is required, checkout Knock Knock’s website to see the next date.
Knock Knock also understands that fun and exciting places can sometimes be a little overwhelming or overstimulating. The Quiet Cabin Learning Zone is a great place to take a step away from the museum in a small, relaxed environment equipped with noise cancelling headphones, sound machine, weighted blanket, books, and puzzles.
The museum also helps low-income children visit through reduced-price tickets for those who qualify, offers sponsored Community Free Days, and draws thousands of school children on field trips from across Louisiana and the Gulf South.
If a child is curious to know what the museum is like before they visit, caregivers can access a Social Story Daily Visit to Knock Knock to help the child understand what to expect.
Why Knock Knock is a Place for YOU!
At its core, Knock Knock Children’s Museum respects all children and families. Our environment opens doors for young children to be successful learners, no matter a child’s developmental or socioeconomic background. For one local grandmother, Knock Knock has helped to deepen her relationship with her grandson. Michelle created a book to document their visits to Knock Knock as a way to connect, including pictures, stamps, and stickers.
“Well, when Tripp and I started coming to Knock Knock Museum, I wanted something to make it special and make it our little thing, just the two of us,” says Michelle Reimsnyder.
“He’s on the autism spectrum and he’s a happy little fellow, but he struggles with his verbal skills. Through visits to Knock Knock, it’s been so much fun to watch him grow and do more things. We just have such a great time and it’s been so much fun to see him developmentally take on each thing in a different way every time we come. And he finds joy every time we come.”
Knock Knock Children’s Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10am to 4pm with special hours on Thursday from 10am to 6pm. Members can visit the museum on Friday and Saturday beginning at 9am. The museum is an independent nonprofit organization that relies on community support.
