As the job market evolves, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System is ensuring students graduate with both academic knowledge and real-world experience through its Learn and Earn Internship Program. In partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber and local businesses, this initiative gives rising seniors the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while still in high school.

Students begin with classroom instruction tailored to industry standards before stepping into internships with companies like Woman’s Hospital, Associated Grocers, Ochsner, Baton Rouge General, Entergy, Raising Cane’s, and BRECO Federal Credit Union. Guided by an individual training plan, they apply what they’ve learned in a professional setting, gaining valuable insights and skills. The program culminates with a capstone project, allowing students to reflect on their experiences and showcase their growth.

Amber Boyd, executive director of Workforce Development for EBRPSS, emphasizes the program’s impact on students, businesses, and the community. Students gain career exposure and professional skills, businesses connect with and train future employees, and the Baton Rouge region benefits from a stronger, job-ready workforce.

For Istrouma High School senior Jamarcus Ginn, the experience has been transformational. “My internship with BRPD gave me insight into leadership and responsibility. The structure and mentorship made a huge impact, and it was an incredible opportunity to grow.”

The Learn and Earn Internship Program is shaping the future of Baton Rouge by fostering meaningful connections between students and industries. Businesses can sign up now to participate in the Summer 2025 or Fall/Spring 2025-26 program. Learn more and get involved today!
