Why choose a magnet program?

Magnet programs in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are public, tuition-free, and open to all students living within the district. These programs offer a thematic, innovative curriculum woven into the standard academic requirements, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that foster excitement and achievement.

As Elizabeth Thomas, the district’s recruiter for Magnet Programs and a parent herself, shares, “Every day, my children come home excited about what they’re doing. They feel like they belong, are challenged, and are continuously growing – all thanks to the Magnet Programs.”

Application process and key dates

The priority application period opened on October 6. Applying during this window gives families the best chance of securing a spot in their preferred program, especially at highly sought-after schools. The entire process can be completed online at EBRmagnet.org, where families can submit required documents and even sign applications electronically.

For those who prefer, documents can also be hand-delivered to the school of their first choice. Most programs require a recent report card, and some have additional academic requirements, such as a minimum GPA and test scores. Siblings of current students receive priority consideration, making it even more important to apply early.

Don’t miss this chance to give your child an educational experience tailored to their interests and strengths. For more information, visit EBRmagnet.org or call the Magnet Program Office at (225) 922-5443.

Magnet Mania was held on October 5, 2025. EBR would like to thank the community and LASM for helping make this year’s Magnet Mania such a success. Over 1,700 people attended and applications have been rolling in.
