The ideal time to photograph your newborn is between 7–14 days after delivery. During this window, babies are typically sleepier, curlier, and more comfortable being gently posed. They still naturally tuck into those womb-like positions, allowing for those timeless, cozy images parents love. After the two-week mark, babies often become more alert, stretch out more, and may be more sensitive to posing.
Booking your session during pregnancy ensures your photographer can reserve space around your due date and adjust once the baby arrives.
Why Experience and Safety Matter
Newborn photography is a specialized art that requires extensive training, patience, and a deep understanding of infant safety. Posing a newborn should never be rushed or forced. Certain poses seen online are actually composites created with hands supporting the baby at all times and edited later for safety.
