Come on down and read all about Rachel Reynolds’ life as a local mom! Though she works as a big-time model for the hit TV show, The Price is Right, she lives an ordinary life as a mom in Baton Rouge with her husband, David, and their daughter, Ruby. When not dazzling the cameras, Rachel can be found spending all the time she can with Ruby, from watching her play in the backyard to attending one of her many sports games. Motherhood is full of countless joys for Rachel, and she counts her blessings as she recalls her supportive husband and flexible work life that have allowed her to be the mom she is today.

WHAT DOES A NORMAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

On a regular school day, we wake up around 6 and eat breakfast together at 6:30. I’ll make her lunch and bring her to school, then come home and do the dishes, laundry, and other chores.  I get out and play tennis mid-morning, run errands, go have lunch with friends, and try to be home by 2 so I can finish anything I need to do around the house and be ready for Ruby to get off the bus around 3. From there, it’s homework, taking her to a practice, and eating dinner. We usually like to stay home for dinner as much as we can. After dinner, Ruby and David love to go fishing or play in the yard.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE JOYS AND CHALLENGES OF RAISING YOUR DAUGHTER?

She’s a good kid, so I’m very fortunate, but one challenge I have is that I always worry about her. The worry never stops! It doesn’t mean I don’t let her do stuff; I try not to let my worry hinder her from living her life. From what I’ve heard, it never ends, so I just have to get used to it.

The joys–they are just countless. She makes me laugh every day. She’s the love of my life, besides my husband of course. She’s just fun to watch! It’s the simple things I get so much joy out of, whether she’s catching a fish, doing a back tuck on the trampoline, or playing softball or basketball, it’s all just so fun to watch your child work hard and succeed. I can’t really describe it other than she brings so much meaning to my life.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS A MOM?

I think I’m a very loving mom, and I try to teach her to have good morals, but I also think I can be a bit of a tough mom. I try not to baby her too much, like if she falls, I tell her, “Just dust yourself off, pick yourself up, and let’s go.” I’m always there for her, though, and I let her know all the time. She can open up to me about anything; I’m trying to set the standard that if there’s anything in the future, her dad and I are always here. To have a husband that is such a good dad, does 50 percent of the work, does not complain, and wants to do it, I’m fortunate to have a man that does that. He’s always supporting her, which makes it easy on me.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO AS A FAMILY?

We love to be outside. We’re always out in the backyard, whether David and Ruby are playing softball together or fishing in the lake in the backyard. One of Ruby’s favorite summer activities is tubing on False River, and we love to go to all the LSU games.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A MOM?

My daughter is my favorite person in the whole world. I have this mini-me that I am teaching to have good morals and be independent. I love watching her succeed academically and in sports. I recently got to watch her be onstage with me at The Price is Right, so she was working right alongside me. All these things bring me so much joy, it’s unbelievable. I can’t imagine life without her.

WHAT HAS PARENTHOOD TAUGHT YOU?

It has taught me about time management, in the beginning especially, and patience. I never really had a lot of patience, but I have more now than I had before Ruby. It’s also taught me to love other people’s kids as well; I’ve always liked kids, but now I have more compassion for children, and I love rooting for other people’s children and watching them succeed. As a mom, I feel how proud they are of their children.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU HOPE TO TEACH YOUR DAUGHTER?

To be independent and strong. I’d like her to be a strong young girl not just physically but mentally; I want her to be able to make the right decisions, to have good morals, and to work hard. It’s also important that she understands it’s okay to fail. Everybody fails at something in their life. That’s where I want her mental strength to come in, so she can keep working and succeed with whatever she wants to do in life.

HOW DO YOU TACKLE ANY CHALLENGES YOU FACE AS A MOM?

Fortunately, I have my husband, and he helps me a lot, so I don’t have too many challenges. I can always rely on him if there is a challenge, and I thank goodness he’s always been there for us. The Price is Right is always so willing to help me out with my family, which eliminates a huge challenge for many working moms, and I’m lucky to have that. Any conflicts with my profession, my bosses, producers, and directors will always work out for me, so I am very fortunate, very lucky.

WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?

My mom and dad are so inspiring. They inspired me to run track at LSU and taught me to have good morals, be confident, and be true to myself. I am who I am because of my parents, so hopefully I will give that to Ruby as well.

WHAT PERSONALITY TRAIT OF YOURS DOES YOUR DAUGHTER ALSO HAVE?

Ruby is not so worried about what people think of her. Of course, you have to care to some extent–you don’t want people thinking you’re a terrible person–but she has a lot of confidence in herself.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER PARENTS?

Love on your children however you feel is best, and always be there for them. We spend a lot of time with our daughter; that’s what we like to do since there are only 3 of us, so I never feel like I need to get away. I’m in a different boat than a lot of mothers.

I would also recommend getting outside with your children! I’ll sit outside, watch Ruby practice, and just be there with her and watch her, and that’s what she likes. Just spend time with them. Watch them do whatever they do, whether it’s playing the piano, jumping on the trampoline, or playing hacky sack. You don’t always have to participate; what matters is you’re out there with them.
