The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS) has officially announced the renaming of Our Lady of the Lake Ascension to Our Lady of the Lake St. Elizabeth. Returning to its original name, the hospital remains committed to bringing world-class care closer to home for the Ascension Parish community while honoring its Franciscan heritage.

During a special ceremony in Baton Rouge on Friday, March 14, 2025, healthcare leaders and community members gathered to commemorate this milestone. Speakers at the event included E.J. Kuiper, president and CEO of FMOLHS; Chuck Spicer, president of Our Lady of the Lake Health; Chris Trevino, MD; and Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment.

“This is more than just a name change,” says Kuiper. “It is a renewal of our promise to serve the vibrant Ascension Parish. We are excited for this new chapter at Our Lady of the Lake St. Elizabeth.”

Spicer echoed the hospital’s commitment to growth and innovation. “The future of healthcare in Ascension with Our Lady of the Lake St. Elizabeth has never been brighter. With expanded services, we’re bringing world-class care closer to home and are ready to meet the needs of our growing community.”

As part of this expansion, the hospital recently opened a new Infusion Center with 15 bays, significantly improving the quality of life for cancer patients who previously had to travel to Baton Rouge for chemotherapy. Additionally, the hospital is advancing its robotic surgery capabilities, supporting urology, critical care, and soon, plastic surgery. A Thoracic Surgery and Pulmonary Nodule Program, utilizing cutting-edge ION robotic technology for early lung cancer detection, will also launch soon.

As FMOLHS continues to grow and serve the Ascension Parish community, the name change reflects not only Our Lady of the Lake St. Elizabeth’s rich history but also its exciting future.
