Livy Zachary might as well be a rare, magical unicorn. She has an ancient soul, sparkling eyes, and the vocabulary of a college professor, yet she is only 13. Livy is a teenager who would rather get lost in a book than a phone and would rather spend her day writing and drinking tea than binge-watching Netflix. She is a proud homeschooler who is flying through her curriculum and teaching herself French. She completed Algebra I this year and is starting Geometry this summer even though she is just entering eighth grade. Her goals for high school are dual enrollment and lots of writing.

Livy displayed her writing talent and poise in May when she performed at Listen To Your Mother, a show about motherhood. Livy shared about her beautiful relationship with her mother to a room full of adults, unphased by the gravity of the experience and being the youngest cast member. Her maturity often amazes the people around her. Her mother even declares, “She’s been raising me. She’s an old soul.” Her favorite books are The Outsiders and Harry Potter, which she credits for opening up the world of literature for her and “catapulting her into being a book lover.” If not reading or writing, Livy can be found jamming out to her favorite music and spending time with her older half-sisters.

Her two favorite places to visit are the bookstore and the library. In fact, after the flood, when the Zacharys were still reeling from losing most of their things, Livy’s first call was to her local library to speak with the librarians and check on the status of the books. Livy has a heart as big as you can imagine, and a brain as wide as the sky. Her serene and joyful outlook on life are just as comforting as a cup of tea and a good book. Livy will do great things and probably write a few books, which makes her one amazing kid.
