The Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) is inviting families to celebrate trains, history, and hands-on learning at Train Day at the Museum on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This special event, in partnership with the Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders, offers visitors of all ages an interactive look at trains and transportation.

Guests can operate model trains with the push of a button, from beloved Thomas & Friends sets to classic toy trains, while hobbyists demonstrate detailed layouts in multiple gauges. A large display of model trains, vendors, and opportunities to win door prizes provide even more fun for train enthusiasts. Live steam trains will also be on display, giving families a unique view of miniature steam-powered railroading.

“This is a great opportunity for families and friends to experience the fun of the model railroad hobby,” says Clay Fourrier, President of the Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders. “The color, action and nostalgic feeling of the many operating displays and expansive train collection on view will provide a look at why this more than a century old pastime is still viable for today’s children and adults.”

Visitors can explore several exhibitions, including Crossroads & Connections: A Century of the Railway in Baton Rouge and Shelf Queens: Model Train Masterpieces, as well as hands-on activities in LASM’s STEAM Station. Train-themed programming will also be featured in the Adelie Brent Auditorium.

Admission is included with regular museum entry and is free for LASM members, which also covers planetarium shows such as America’s Musical Journey, Into America’s Wild, and National Parks Adventure.

LASM encourages families to enjoy a full day of discovery, celebrating the museum’s historic architecture and the enduring fascination with trains. For more information, visit lasm.org.
