Get ready for a night of fun, celebration, and community spirit! Families are invited to the grand reopening of BREC’s Howell Community Park on Friday, June 13, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6 p.m., followed by Late Night Hype from 7–10 p.m.

This exciting event celebrates the completion of the park’s stunning transformation after the 2016 flood. The newly constructed 15,500-square-foot recreation center is designed with resilience and sustainability in mind, featuring flood-prevention infrastructure like rain gardens, bioswales, and native wildflowers. Elevated above the base flood elevation, the center is built to last.

Inside, the building offers multiple rental rooms, a game room, a senior program area, staff offices, modern restrooms, and more. Outside, visitors can enjoy a new eight-foot-deep swimming pool, a bathhouse, an upgraded parking lot, an entry plaza, and an amphitheater. The park is also the future home of the Inspiration Center, which will house the Boys & Girls Club beginning in November 2025.

Late Night Hype brings a free, family-friendly atmosphere, opening the park’s new pool and facilities to the public for an evening of aquatic fun. Inspired by urban late-night programs, the event is designed to foster safe, structured recreational opportunities for youth and families.

Join the celebration at Howell Community Park (5509 Winbourne Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70805) and be part of this exciting new chapter.
