People have published “how-to” books on a myriad of subjects which can be very helpful. The Lord has given us the Book of All Books (the Bible), and to the Bible, we will go to learn how to make time for God.

First, know that the Lord desires for His people to spend time with Him; He has called and saved us to have an intimate walk with Him, and to have such a relationship, we must spend quality time with Him. As believers, we must get our priorities straight and actively strive to “seek first the kingdom of God.” When we do this, Jesus assures us that He will provide everything else for us. It’s His way, and His way is always best.

With our hectic schedules, it can be difficult to make time for God, prayer, and Bible reading. It can be difficult, but it’s not impossible. Spending time with our Savior and Lord should never be an afterthought. We should give to Him the best of our day and not merely the “leftovers.” Make spending time with the Lord a priority. Plan it. Make it part of your daily schedule, the same way you do the rest of your schedule (getting the kids to school, work, preparing meals, etc.). It can be helpful to view your daily time with the Lord as the most important part of your day, because it is. Spending daily time with the Lord must be a “non-negotiable” commitment. The Lord gives us enough time each day to do everything that He desires us to do, so we must make sure we are living according to His plan and not our own. He will always give us enough time to spend with Him. Nothing of eternal value will ever go undone when we devote ourselves each day to do His will.

Solomon wrote, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” (Eccl. 3:1) Perhaps the Lord is leading us to: turn off our phones, turn off the TV, put down the golf club, etc., and spend that time with Him. Grab your spouse, grab your children, and pick up your Bible! The Lord will certainly meet with you. You will never regret spending time with the Lord! “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Ps. 90:12)
