According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide has been the third-leading cause of death for Louisianans ages 10 to 24 since 2020. The signs, which remind motorists to call or text the 988 suicide crisis lifeline, which is operated 24 hours, have been placed along major roadways in the city. Decals with the 988 number will also be applied to the windows of parish emergency vehicles. ■ 988lifeline.org
