What is the school’s mission and philosophy? The mission of St. Joseph’s Academy is to educate young women as responsible and unifying members of the world community. In the spirit and charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph, St. Joseph’s Academy offers opportunities for faith development in the Catholic tradition, academic excellence, and personal growth.
How does the school differentiate itself from other private schools in the area? St. Joseph’s Academy is a five-time winner of the National Blue Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education. In this, our 156th year, SJA continues to provide an environment of excellence, where relationships are strengthened and young girls become women of faith, hope, and love.
What are the core values that guide the school community? St. Joseph’s Academy values education that seeks the development of the whole person. An atmosphere of warmth and encouragement promotes academic achievement and the formation of relationships among all members of the learning community, resulting in students’ emotional and social growth.
Are there advanced placement, honors programs, or dual-enrollment classes available? SJA offers honors courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies and foreign language, and 23 advanced placement courses are offered across all disciplines. Dual-enrollment classes are offered in English, math, and social studies.
What extracurricular activities and clubs are available? SJA embraces the philosophy that student experiences outside the classroom should be just as rewarding as those inside. There are 40 clubs that focus on the arts, humanities, STEM, theology, service and general interest. Student-athletes compete in 12 LHSAA sports and three non-sanctioned sports.
How does the school foster a sense of community among students? Traditions bind SJA students to one another and to the generations of Academy graduates who came before them. Through these shared experiences, SJA students and alumnae become members of a special SJA sisterhood, filled with all the compassion and warmth of family.
How can parents get involved in the school community? Parents enjoy active participation in the school community through involvement in the Dads’ Club and Mothers’ Club, taking part in school events, supporting the SJA Annual Fund and, most importantly, praying for the school, its students, and its mission.
What percentage of graduates go on to college? 100 percent of SJA graduates attend a four-year college or university. Members of the class of 2024 were offered admission to 152 colleges and universities and were offered $38.55 million in scholarship money.
