Dolores Margaret Richard Spikes Mathematics Bootcamp

The 2026 Dolores Margaret Richard Spikes (DMRS) Mathematics Bootcamp is an effort sponsored by the IBM-HBCU Quantum Center and administered by the Timbuktu Academy to promote the emerging field of Quantum Information Science & Engineering (QISE) and connect rising 11th and 12th grades from the surrounding Baton Rouge area with scholarship opportunities and career pathways in STEM disciplines particularly Physics and Math.

Participants will focus on mathematics skills essential for careers in QISE and also will conduct selected experiments such as Quantum Entanglement and Quantum Erasure. In addition to hands-on learning, students will engage in collaborative problem-solving sessions, critical thinking exercises, and small group discussions designed to deepen conceptual understanding. Participants will interact with expert SU faculty, IBM-HBCU Quantum Center faculty, as well as industry experts. The Timbuktu Academy intends to recruit exceptional participants for possible scholarship opportunities and provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to support long-term academic and professional growth in STEM fields.
