The LSU Rural Life Museum Apprentice Program is a hands-on summer camp designed for elementary and middle school students interested in Louisiana history, culture, and traditional skills. Apprentices explore what life was like in 19th century rural Louisiana while learning from museum professionals and skilled craftspeople, practicing new skills, and forging friendships.
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, this year’s Apprentice Program will include special activities and projects exploring daily life, craftsmanship, and community in early America. Students will contact local history to our country’s important national milestone.
Activities include traditional crafts, agricultural and architectural practices, and trade skills. The Apprentice Program encourages creativity, curiosity, and confidence and offers students a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications. By the end of the week, we hope your apprentices leave with a deeper understanding of Louisiana’s past and a greater appreciation for the importance of preserving this knowledge for future generations.
Students entering grades 4th-8th for the upcoming school year can register for the camp.
