The Dunham School has announced that Upper School math teacher Amy Kemp Dykes is the 2023 recipient of the Liz Peters Master Teacher Award, presented during the school’s Commencement Ceremony.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding teaching at The Dunham School, with the intent to inspire excellence in the classroom and ensure the employment and retention of Master Teachers, in order to form a nucleus of strong teaching faculty for the school’s future.

“The resources, support, and encouragement I receive from administrators, co-workers, and parents ignite my desire to continually explore new instructional strategies and the latest technology. I have been given opportunities to mentor incredible students. I am challenged by my co-workers and administrators to know God more authentically, to serve Him more wholeheartedly, and to share him more openly. I am humbled by the parents I know are praying for every facet of our school,” Dykes says. “ This honor, while humbling, is also challenging. As a Master Teacher, I am now, more than ever, inspired to remain pliable as an educator. My call to expand my knowledge, embrace new ideas, and enrich the lives of others, has only been heightened by the distinction of Master Teacher.”

Dykes has served the school for five years as an Upper School math teacher, Math Department chair, Director of Math and Science, and mentor teacher. She has also served as the faculty sponsor for the Beta Club, leading the largest contingent of students in school history at the Beta Club convention. In addition, she has mentored students in Dunham’s Institute of Leadership and has worked diligently to develop the Connections Program and Lunch & Learn events.
