The 2024 Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes is now accepting online applications. This prestigious award celebrates inspiring, public-spirited young people ages 8-18 from across the U.S. and Canada. The judging panel for the Barron Prize is looking for young people who have initiated and led an extraordinary service activity and who demonstrate heroic qualities such as courage, compassion, dedication, and a positive attitude. These young heroes are recognized for their initiatives in environmental sustainability, social justice, and community service. Recent winners include Atreta, who discovered an eco-friendly way to bring honeybee hives from pests; Alex, who created a crowd-sourced web app that provides a directory of handicapped accessible public spaces; and Mateo, whose recycling program raises money for local youth organizations. Since inception, the Barron Prize has awarded more than 1.6 million dollars to young leaders from all different types of organizations. ■ barronprize.org
