The Eagle Has Landed Wins Big

The Louisiana Chapter of the Journalism Education Association announced the winners of the 2019 JEA/Tom Bell Silver Scribe Yearbook Awards at the Fall 2019 JEA/Loyola High School Media Day Conference held at Loyola University on September 26.  The 2019 Eagle, Parkview Baptist School’s yearbook, was entered into the contest and won Yearbook of the Year, first place for Yearbook Theme, and third place for Feature Photography.

The theme of last year’s book was “The Eagle has Landed,” and the judges said, “loved the theme and tie in with the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Love the logos, drawings of different spaceships, especially the Millennium Falcon. It was a treat to page through.”

The Yearbook Staff also attended the Louisiana Scholastic Press Association Annual Conference at LSU. The LSPA Conference is an innovative educational event that is organized each fall by the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication and is held at the LSU Student Union on the Baton Rouge campus. LSPA members, who are high school students and faculty advisers from across the state, participate in the half-day conference, which is designed to improve student media at the high school level.

At the conference, the yearbook staff toured the Manship School and attended workshops focused on design, sports communication, and investigative reporting. They also attended an awards ceremony for the LSPA media contest. Parkview’s yearbook was entered in the contest and received the following awards:

The judges complimented the strong, cohesive theme of the book and how the staff focused on making it a meaningful book for the Parkview Community. The staff has already selected a theme for the 2020 yearbook and is currently hard at work on the design concepts. They hope to deliver another great yearbook to the Parkview community.
