Baton Rouge Music Studios – More Than Music Lessons
The term “music lesson” is deceivingly simple. People often think of the kind elderly lady down the street who taught them how to play the piano, or the rock and roll dude who taught them classic rock songs out of the back of a music store. But if done right, beneath the surface of the term “music lesson,” lie some deep and meaningful experiences that will have a positive impact on the rest of a child’s life.
Effective music teachers don’t just teach their students how to play an instrument. They challenge and motivate their students to be the best they can be at more than music. They find exciting ways to inspire their students to practice at home, teaching that a little discipline can elicit a lot of joy. They challenge their students to set a plan of action to achieve goals. And, most importantly, effective music teachers instill a love for music in their students that lasts a lifetime regardless of where their lives take them.
Baton Rouge Music Studios takes these ideas one step further by sourcing and training teachers who are not only passionate about teaching music, but who are also fervent about using music education as a medium through which to build a meaningful and supportive community. Our teachers encourage their students to utilize valuable soft skills that will help them navigate a myriad of social and professional situations as they grow into adulthood, and they also model a heart for service that they hope will impact young musicians as members of a world that needs more gestures of kindness and compassion.
The returns on our “teach the whole child” investment have been tremendous over the last 14 years in some ways that we never imagined. One of those unexpected results has been the creation of a quality employee pool among our students as they leave high school and enter their next stage in life. It is truly incredible to see some of our students transition into becoming a part of our administrative team and/or part of our teaching faculty.
These amazingly gifted, goofy, beautiful, hilarious, responsible, and disciplined young people have been immersed in opportunities to grow as musicians and as leaders through BRMS, and now they are paying it forward by teaching their own students in the same positive and empowering ways. We always celebrate all our teachers, and we want to take this opportunity to specifically celebrate the ones who started their musical journey with us.
