Joseph “Scotty” Miller, an 11th grader at Central High School, wears many hats, both in school and in his day-to-day life. He reached Eagle Scout status in 2016, does IT for his school to help with computers, is a member of the ROTC, and is only 16 years old. After graduation, Scotty hopes to join the Air Force.
Scotty can often be found hiking, biking, and helping out in the community. During the flood in 2016, Scotty worked with medical staff to help pass out bandaids, gauzes, and medical supplies to those in shelters. In fact, Scotty has always been quick to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.
Three years ago, Scotty began Scotty’s Quest, a bullying awareness program, where he works with local schools, giving presentations to each grade level on what bullying looks like and the effects of bullying.
“I was always an observer. I liked to see how things would pan out. As I would observe, I began seeing more and more friends slip away, and a lot of them did because they were being bullied. Bullying is everywhere. I hope that the presentation will open their eyes to bullying. I want people to know the difference between a best friend messing with you versus bullying,” he shares.
Scotty hopes to expand the program to St. Amant, St. Francisville, Zachary, and Livingston to help raise even more awareness of bullying and how it affects everyday life.
With big goals set for himself and a lively, social, and charismatic personality, he will achieve these hopes and more because he is one amazing kid.
