In response to two separate fires at the campus of Broadmoor United Methodist Church (UMC), the church community has organized a fundraising effort to help offset its loss of property, materials and equipment. The fires occurred within three days of each other, the first fire destroying the Scout Hut on the morning of April 1, then the Administration Building in the early morning of April 3. Both events remain under investigation by the East Baton Rouge Parish Police and Fire departments.
Those wishing to support the church’s fundraising efforts may donate via a GoFundMe campaign, while checks may be made out to Broadmoor UMC, listing “Fire Fund” in the memo line and mailed to 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70815. “We mourn the devastation this act of violence has wrought to our beloved church,” says Donnie Wilkinson, Senior Pastor at Broadmoor UMC. “We are surrounded by ashes right now, but we will not always be. We are people of the Resurrection. Just days after the second fire, we celebrated Palm Sunday with over 700 people via our livestream and this week we are providing hundreds of meals to our neighbors through our Red Stick Together ministry. We are focused on our mission and I look forward to the day, very soon, when we will begin the rebuilding process.”
