For many parents, diapers are a basic necessity, but for far too many Louisiana families, they can also be a significant financial burden. Recently, a local professional organization stepped up in a big way to help address this challenge.
At its December meeting, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Greater Baton Rouge Chapter, led a successful diaper drive benefiting the Junior League of Baton Rouge (JLBR) Diaper Bank. The initiative was spearheaded by AFP member Molly Sanchez and brought together members around a shared goal: supporting families with young children during the holiday season.
To spark participation, AFP member Erika Richardson of Kids’ Orchestra teamed up with her young son to create a heartfelt promotional video encouraging donations. Their message resonated throughout the AFP community, motivating members to give generously. By the end of the meeting, the collection barrel was filled to overflowing with more than 600 diapers in a variety of sizes.
In addition to in-person donations, members were able to expand the reach of the drive by using a QR code to ship diapers directly to the JLBR Diaper Bank. This option made it easy for families and professionals alike to contribute, even if they were unable to attend the meeting in person.
According to the Junior League of Baton Rouge, 1 in 3 Louisiana families with young children struggles to afford diapers, an essential item that is not covered by government assistance programs such as SNAP or WIC. Efforts like this diaper drive help close a critical gap for parents who are already juggling rising costs and daily demands.
The AFP Greater Baton Rouge Chapter expressed sincere gratitude to all members who participated, demonstrating how collective action can make a meaningful difference for local families. Through partnerships like this, organizations continue to strengthen the support systems parents rely on every day.
