Baton Rouge families, get ready—one of the city’s most beloved holiday traditions is back! On Friday, December 5, downtown Baton Rouge will glow once again as the Festival of Lights transforms North Boulevard into a sparkling winter wonderland. This free, family-friendly event is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season together.
The evening begins with the Mayor’s annual lighting of the towering 30-foot Christmas tree, followed by the grand illumination of North Boulevard with half a million twinkling lights. Kids and parents alike will love watching downtown shine as the city officially welcomes the holidays.

Throughout the night, families can enjoy live performances on the main stage from local school choirs, dance teams, marching bands, community groups, and more. The celebration wraps up in style with a festive performance by Ned Fasullo & The Fabulous Big Band Orchestra—perfect for dancing, singing along, or simply soaking in the holiday spirit.
There’s no shortage of activities to keep little ones entertained. Lace up for ice skating, explore a magical snow village, visit Santa in the Senate, and experience the wonder of a live Nativity. Families can also browse the Christmas Arts Market for unique gifts and enjoy holiday shopping at the LSU Museum of Art Store.
Presented by Louisiana First News, the Downtown Development District, the City of Baton Rouge, and the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, the Festival of Lights is a tradition that brings the entire community together. Pack up the kids, grab some cocoa, and make downtown Baton Rouge your family’s holiday destination this December.
