Exciting news for families and young readers: a never-before-seen manuscript by Dr. Seuss has been discovered and will be published next summer! Sing the 50 United States! is set to release on June 2, 2026, just in time for the United States’ 250th anniversary, with a first printing of 500,000 copies.
The manuscript, found in the archives of UC San Diego’s Geisel Library, showcases Dr. Seuss’s signature rhymes, rhythm, and playful wordplay. In this new picture book, readers will join the iconic Cat in the Hat and two Little Cat helpers as they sing and learn all 50 states—from Massachusetts to Mississippi and beyond. The book will include excerpts from Dr. Seuss’s original manuscript, sketches, and a map of the United States beneath the jacket, making it both fun and educational.

Popular children’s book artist Tom Brannon has created brand-new illustrations in Dr. Seuss’s beloved style, bringing this previously hidden story to life for a whole new generation.
To celebrate the launch, Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books are partnering with First Book for a nationwide backpack initiative. Students in all 50 states will receive backpacks filled with Sing the 50 United States!, other Dr. Seuss favorites, and essential school supplies. A special Washington, D.C., event will mark the celebration during the 2026 back-to-school season.
This discovery marks the first full Dr. Seuss manuscript to be found since What Pet Should I Get? in 2015. With classic titles still topping bestseller lists and new projects—including a Cat in the Hat animated film coming in November 2026—Dr. Seuss’s legacy of inspiring young readers continues to grow.
Parents and children alike can look forward to singing, learning, and exploring the United States together with this delightful new Dr. Seuss adventure—truly a treasure to share for generations to come.
