American Girl has unveiled its 2026 Girl of the Year, Raquel Reyes, a character who bridges the brand’s historic legacy with today’s diverse storytelling. A descendant of the beloved original historical character Samantha Parkington, Raquel embodies kindness, courage, and a love for family, inspiring young fans to connect with their communities and those around them.

Ten-year-old Raquel Reyes lives in Kansas City, helping run her family’s vibrant paleta shop, spending time with her little brother and rescue dog Luzita, and exploring hobbies from pickleball to DJing. Her story highlights her Mexican American heritage, her connection to her great-great-grandmother Samantha, and her journey to strengthen family bonds, especially with her cousin Sloan. Through Raquel’s experiences, children are encouraged to reflect on compassion, identity, and the power of empathy.

Raquel’s story comes alive through an illustrated journal and a full-length novel, Raquel Saves the Wedding, written by award-winning author Angela Cervantes. American Girl collaborated with cultural and subject-matter experts to ensure authenticity, offering a meaningful and relatable experience for young readers.

The 18-inch Raquel doll features light brown eyes, brown hair in a half-updo with a bow, and a gingham-inspired outfit paying homage to Samantha Parkington. Fans can also explore her collection of accessories, fashion sets, keepsakes, and even a seaside car for imaginative play.

To celebrate Raquel’s debut, American Girl is donating over $100,000 in books to children in underserved communities, supporting literacy and storytelling nationwide. Retail and digital experiences, including themed events, doll salons, and the “Family Forever” music video, allow families to engage with Raquel’s inspiring world.

Raquel Reyes™ is now available at American Girl stores, online at americangirl.com, and by phone. With her debut, American Girl continues its tradition of inspiring girls to embrace compassion, curiosity, and connection across generations.
