Two students who recently solved the Pythagorean Theorem using trigonometry have added nine more solutions to their proofs. Ne’Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson, former St. Mary’s Academy students, presented their discovery to the American Mathematical Society in Atlanta back in March of 2023. This year, their solutions were peer-reviewed and thoroughly investigated to confirm what many in the mathematics community would have never imagined—the Pythagorean Theorem can be solved using trigonometry. The students managed to evade circular reasoning, coming to the conclusion that the theorem can prove itself.
