Louisiana State Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley announced a recent “significant” reduction in the time students will be allowed to spend taking standardized tests. The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is making immediate changes to the amount of time students will be allowed to test by 20 percent in 2025. In April 2025, grades 3–8 will spend less time taking the LEAP test, according to the LDOE. With these upcoming changes, students will spend at least 40 to 75 minutes less testing in ELA, depending on their grade. In addition, students will spend about 30 to 40 minutes less testing in math, and the LDOE says they’ve eliminated four machine-scored tasks and two long response tasks on the test.
