Baton Rouge Parents Magazine staff members Ryn Whiteside and Roxane Voorhies were on hand this weekend to host Manship Theatre’s Quiet Room.
Sponsored by Baton Rouge Parents Magazine, the Quiet Room was a part of Sunday’s matinee and sensory-friendly performance of Goodnight Moon and the Runaway Bunny. This performance didn’t feature any flashing or strobe lights, sudden volume increases, or loud noises. The show was also considered a “non-shushing” show, allowing audience members to not be discouraged from vocalizing or helping to tell the stories as they unfolded.
The room provided a space where those who needed a moment could regroup and relax in a calm and peaceful environment.
Sensory bags were also provided by Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health, which included noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, fidget toys, and a communication card to help accommodate autistic and other sensory-sensitive patrons.
