Is Trick-or-Treating Still Cool?

Trick-or-treating is one of the most popular activities that toddlers, children, and even some teenagers partake in each Halloween. While trick-or-treating is usually a very carefree, fun activity that families enjoy, some teenagers might find the idea corny, lame, or even boring. I mean, who wants to dress in a costume and ask strangers for candy? Who does that?!

If your teens have expressed disdain for the centuries-long tradition of trick-or-treating, you’re not alone! We’ve got some great alternatives that your teens will—dare we say––love?

Host a Halloween Party

A Halloween party is a great way to celebrate Halloween without even leaving the house! Not to mention, your teens can invite their friends and classmates to dress up, come out, and party in the safety of your home. In addition, you and your teenager can go out to the party supplies store, or Target, and get fun decorations to add a spooky touch to your home––think spider webs, glittery spiders, pumpkins, and other Halloween favorites.

Have a Bonfire

A bonfire is the perfect way to gather a large group of people in a small area. Even better? Everyone can still dress up in their costumes! For dinner, you can provide hotdogs for roasting. Don’t forget marshmallows and all of the necessary supplies to make s’mores!

Play Games

Another fun way you can celebrate Halloween is through a game night! Your teen can invite up to ten people to play board games, card games, or even JackBox on the TV! In addition, you can show a Halloween movie on the TV while they hang out, eat candy, and play games together.

Carve Pumpkins

If you want to include pumpkins in your itinerary for the night, you can buy seven to eight pumpkins and carving kits, and host a pumpkin carving night! Each guest can carve and take home a pumpkin. If you want to do something less messy, you can opt for pumpkin painting instead.

Have a Costume Contest

A costume contest is a fun way to celebrate Halloween and still get to wear a fun costume! Have your teen invite a group of friends and plan out a contest. Make sure to include prizes like gift cards!

Plan a Movie Night

Nothing says Halloween like slasher movies! Host a movie night for your teen and let them choose their favorite movies to show. A movie night won’t be complete without popped popcorn, theater-level concessions, and of course–candy!

Trick-or-treating may be an outdated concept for some kids, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun on Halloween! These ideas are a great way to plan the perfect Halloween night for your teens!
