Baton Rouge Magnet High School is a dedicated magnet high school with the mission of raising standards and developing the artistic talents of its students. Academically, the school provides the opportunity to build a solid college-preparatory background by offering honors, dual enrollment, and advanced placement courses that motivate students to excel beyond the normal challenge at each grade level. The school is unique in that it is the only high school in the nation with both AM/FM student-operated stations streaming.

Students continue the school’s legacy of excellence each year by recognizing National Merit Semi-Finalists, National Merit Commended, Hispanic Recognized, African-American Recognized, Indigenous Recognized, Advanced Placement Capstone, Presidential Scholars and Candidates, and over 400 Advanced Placement Scholars. This year, the school recognized 16 National Merit Semi-Finalists, which is more students than most other schools in the state of Louisiana–public or private.

Baton Rouge Magnet High School was recently recognized with the Advanced Placement 2024 Platinum Honor Roll and Access Award. This recognition is based on the number of students experiencing college level classes, enabling students to earn college credit, and optimizing student’s college readiness. Other 2024 awards include the National Beta School of Distinction, Louisiana State Science Olympiad Champions, Louisiana Science Bowl Champions, DECA Gold Level Certification, International Key Club Distinguished Diamond, Intercollegiate Broadcasting Awards, Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair, Louisiana Junior Classical League Champions, Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence, Louisiana Robotics State Champions, Louisiana Envirothon State Champions, Louisiana Science Olympiad Champions, National Visual Arts Sweepstakes, and National Performing Arts Sweepstakes in Orchestra, Band, Choir and Ballet.

With 75 clubs and organizations, character building is encouraged to build the culture of the school. Although students do not have the traditional baseball, basketball, and football programs, students do have the opportunity to participate in varsity teams for both boys and girls in track, cross country, swimming, golf, bowling, soccer, gymnastics, wrestling, tennis, powerlifting, and volleyball. BRMHS has won state championships in a number of these interscholastic sports. Last year, BRMHS won the LHSAA state championship in boys gymnastics and the LHSCA Girls Wrestling Championship. As part of our culture, we offer intramurals of flag football in the fall and basketball in the spring.

“The Legacy of Excellence ” continues at Baton Rouge Magnet High School with the help of the Parent Faculty Association and the Baton Rouge High Foundation helping our students and teachers at Baton Rouge Magnet High School to be the very best and to achieve the goals for the students.
