Lindsey Fauveau, MD, knows how complex breast cancer care can be. That is why she spearheads the breast surgical oncology department at Ochsner in Baton Rouge. Before pursuing a fellowship in specialized treatment for breast cancer, Dr. Fauveau brainstormed with leadership to start a department solely dedicated to comprehensive breast care.

“Your breast surgeon is the captain of your ship when it comes to breast cancer treatment,” says Dr. Fauveau. Dr. Fauveau went to medical school at Ross University, completed her general surgery residency at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and did her fellowship at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

“Breast cancer treatments can be overwhelming. Before my fellowship, I was a general surgeon being asked complex questions in which I did not have a firm foundation,” she adds. “I wanted to dive deep into the complexities of breast cancer care. I knew I was never going to be able to master this craft unless I took the time to do it the right way.”

Dr. Fauveau’s department is located on the fourth floor of Ochsner Medical Complex – The Grove. There, she works closely with medical and radiation oncology colleagues to provide multidisciplinary breast cancer care. She considers it a blessing to alleviate her patients of the many burdens that come with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Ochsner’s mammograms will calculate your breast density and your risk of breast cancer, which can be accessed easily through the MyOchsner app. Dr. Fauveau’s goals are to grow the new program created for patients at high risk for breast cancer, and Ochsner has provided her that platform as a leading breast cancer resource in Baton Rouge.
