A Terrific Tooth Tip

Dr. O’Shee is here with a Terrific Tip from College Family Dentistry

Sugar is a prominent reason that cavities form. It is the energy supply for bacteria that create cavities. There is an additional culprit that gives sugar a one, two punch and leads to increased cavities: acid. Food and drinks that are acidic can cause teeth to soften, leading them to be more susceptible to cavities. This can be caused by drinks such as diet sodas and citrus based drinks and juices. Now, before you brush your teeth after every soda, you should know that the teeth are soft and brushing them can cause even more damage, especially after the first 30 minutes of the acid bath. It is best to not let your teeth bathe in soda (drink it fast), rinse with water afterwards, and be sure to take everything in moderation.
