 CONTESTS

GOOD_JACKIE_We want to know who has the best grandparents in the community.

Does your child light up when Nana or Papa enter the room? Do they learn the act of kindness with Mimi or Paw Paw as they volunteer in the community?

For many grandchildren, grandparents are fascinating and special. They often seem to have the answers to everything and are an inspiration to many. The stories of how they fell in love or how things were when they were little seem to captivate even the most rambunctious five-year-old or bored teenager.

In 200 words or less, have your child share with us what makes their grandparents special. The winning grandparents will win a FREE night stay at the Astor Crown Plaza Hotel in New Orleans. The winning child will receive tickets to the Audubon Zoo.

The winning entry will be published in the September issue of Baton Rouge Parents Magazine.

Entry deadline is Tuesday, August 17th.

Does your school want $500,000?

Kohl’s Cares is celebrating 10 years of supporting children’s health and education initiatives. For this occasion, the subsidiary of Kohl’s Department Stores is giving $500,000 to 20 schools each across the country.

Schools eligible for participation include: operating public schools in the United States (excluding Puerto Rico) serving grades kindergarten through twelfth and nonprofit private and charter schools, serving grades kindergarten through twelfth run by or supported by legal U.S. residents or a U.S. corporation. Private for-profit schools are not eligible to participate.

To vote, you must first be a member of Facebook, “like” Kohl’s on Facebook and “allow access” to the Kohl’s Cares contest application. You will be given 20 votes to cast for schools you support. Each person can cast up to five votes per school. The top 20 schools with the most votes win. To receive the donation, winning schools will be required to outline the ideas they would like to fund and give a detailed budget outline. The contest ends Friday, September 3rd. Winners will be notified in late September.
